VOLUNTEERS are just as integral a part of the community as those who live at Angelica Village. Their valuable contributions of time, energy, and resources enable everyone’s needs to be met while also creating personal relationships that serve as a source of purpose and support for all.

There are many ways that volunteers give what they can and receive what they need in the ever expanding circle of support at Angelica Village. Explore the current volunteer opportunities below and email angelicavillage@gmail.com if you are interested in getting involved. Please express what activity you’re interested in, why you are interested in volunteering, and share a copy of your resume. No matter what gifts you bring you will truly make a difference!

Tutoring

Tutoring helps youth and young adults and adults reach their educational goals. The age range of youth is 15-25 and includes middle school, high school, community college, university and specialized training.  Sessions are generally once a week. Most of the help is with assignments and understanding instructions or readings.

Mentorship

Mentorship gives children positive role models as they explore their world and look to the future. The children range in age from 6 to 21. Mentors usually meet once a week or every other week and spend time outside the home with the mentee. Activities vary based on age and parental preference if parents are involved.

Gardening

Time in the garden offers healthy food to all community members. Garden volunteers help with planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.

Babysitting allows the parents in our community to work, go to school and study or get other work done in efforts to better their lives. Babysitting can take place at Angelica Village or specific homes. Volunteers spend 2-4 hours with a child or children and often use the children’s spaces in our homes for this activity. Background checks are required for this activity.

Financial coaches/ mentors help young adults and adults in the community plan for their future financial health. Establishing budgets is often a first step. Coaching also includes a basic understanding of U.S. banking procedures and savings accounts. For some it means reviewing debts, past tax issues and other financial concerns the impede moving forward.

Children and youth who do not or cannot drive need rides regularly to and from school, to recreational activities, to work or to visit friends.

Community meals are provided every Thursday and Saturday. Volunteers cook a dish that can serve 10 -15 people and deliver the meal to one of our homes. Volunteers often stay for the meal and enjoy meeting everyone.
